“kasi tukar tu gear belakang…”

This is in response to Jennifer’s post about changing the gears of a mountain bike. Too cute not to blog bah!. First of all, the gears on a mountain bike is call a derailleur, because it derail the chain from its track, something like when you flick a train out of its track. But you can call it gear for easy reference.
 
I’m using a thumb shifter, so called because I use my thumb to shift my gears. The one Jennifer is using is a grip shifter, so called because you have to grip it and turn it. I hope you get this Jen.
 

This is my shifter; I’m using SRAM X-5.
 

This is the shifter to my front derailleur, positioned at the left hand side of your handlebar. There’s 1-3 indication, number 1 is for the smaller ring, 3 the biggest ring.

This is the shifter to my rear derailleur, position at the right hand side of your handlebar. But on this derailleur, number 1 is representing the biggest ring at the back. Having a hard time to comprehend? Its something like when you’re driving, you switch to lower gear to start driving or going uphill, higher gear when you want more speed. Umm, I’m pretty much sure there’s no “gostan” on a mountain bike.
 

Yup, I’m using SRAM X-5 also for my rear derailleur. If you count the cassette (the term use to describe the cogs at the back), I have 9. Up hill? No problem hehehe.
 

My tyre is actually for off road. We talk about that later.
