KK Luv New V
Somewhere middle of last year I saw this painting on a wall near Khidmat Supermarket, where I have my lunch before Friday prayer. I find it very unique. My colleague told me that they saw the artist doing the painting. I never met the artist in person until one fine October when a friend of mine came down to KK. We hangout at Fook Yuen Gaya Street, the dim sum here are scrumptious don’t you think? It’s hard to find Halal ones so forgive me; I don’t often try the other place. Yeah. Scrumptious indeed. Yup, my friend Tashi introduced me to the artist there, Greg and his wife Nofie, and one I-forgot-his-name artist; gawd I’m so bad at memorizing people’s name. I remember we had a great talk about the environment, No Coal Plant, and Green SURF.
The next day after coming back from Sapi Island; because Tashi missed going to the small island and the beach, we went to a building remnant between Suria Sabah and HSBC. I’ve noticed the paintings on the walls and columns a few weeks before but never had the chance to actually go there and see it for myself. Even the director of Sabah Art Gallery was there. Well I’m not sure if he’s the director but I do remember seeing him in every drawing competition that I entered. Yes, I used to draw when I’m still in school. I still remember my self-portrait on display at school surrounded by portrait of Jordan Knight. Bummer! I miss my Orang Utan painting.
Little did I know that the day I first met them was the day they actually stop working this site. I got word however that these 10 local talented young artists are having Urban Art Exhibition at Sabah Art Gallery from 6th January 2011 until 29th January 2011. It’s the smaller building next to the longer one at Sabah Museum, for those who don’t know where it’s located. Their genres of arts range from surrealism, visual art, graffiti, pop art, outsider art, comics, designs, naive contemporary to paper craft. Please click on the photo below for more info.
Each “kawan” doll are custom painted by artist who are participating in the exhibition. Please support them. 🙂
every time i passed by the building remnant there, i try to look for new painting. i was made to understand that the paintings keep changing because people have no actual right to keep their painting permanent there. others can simply coat the painting white and paint another drawing on it. those in your photos, i see new ones!
i need to go and check it back when i’m in kk. it’s ok to have new urban art replacing the current ones. but not “urban poetry” like the ones in our public toilet :p
We should have more avenues for artiste like these. Those are really nice art work.
Oh, btw Pai, when you were in Sabah College, were you taught by Mr. Lee, the Arts teacher? He made me like Art 🙂
Lim or Lee if forgot. I remember old chinese teacher, thought me the correct way using water colour, and also portrait using pencil & rubber. He also encourage me to draw portrait or Orang Utan for Sabah Art Gallery. I wonder if he’s still teaching in Sabah College?

aww… thanks for the support ya’ll… ya’ll really inspire us to do more.. all i can say is… there’s more art to come from us… n.. there’s 5 new wall this year for ya’ll to admire.. in KK hint* hint*.. watchout for it.. really soon k… thanks..
