iThankYou Steve Jobs

Good artists copy, great artists steal. – Pablo Picasso

I was not really an Apple Fan Boy before this. In fact, there’s one time, not quite sure when, but I did comment that Apple is a company that want the mass follow what they want, not the other way round. Thinking about it, lets just say I’m eating my own word. Back then, I want to be able to control things, able to tweak things, I’m one of those do-it-yourself guy, and actually still am until today. But past is past, now I’m into simplicity when it comes to gadget. The rest? I still prefer DIY, like repairing my bicycle, making antennas, servicing engine. Did you know I made two portable iPhone chargers that use two AA batteries? I sure did. I was a fun failed project.

Macintosh Classic

My first introduction to Apple as far as I remember was the Macintosh Classic or Classic II. I think it was shown in a few movies during the late 80’s. During that time, the same era as “The Cover Up”, computer could do everything you could imagine. What do you expect, it was the 80’s movie. There’s also a few “computers” movie at that time, I remember there’s IBM in one of them, and basically it was the era where I get interested in computer.

1997 iMac

Then there was 1997 iMac, the transparent blue computer that came out after Steve Jobs was back into the company that he co-founded. Cik Bedah on my blog banner was inspired by this very iMac. I never used or touch them though. I guess back then, it was damn expensive and having it would mean that you wont be able to share files between PC and Mac. I’m living in a world where everybody uses Windows. It was the year when everybody says “why didn’t think of it?” and try to mimic Apple’s design. There were a lot of transparent monitors & CPU in the market soon after that.

iPod Shuffle 1st Generation

My first Apple product was the iPod Shuffle first generation. I really love that iPod. But I’m ashamed to admit, I do not know who was the man behind it, a typical Windows user who only knows Bill Gates. Even when a good friend of mine told me that there’s this guy went back into Apple and agreed to have USD1 as his salary until he could get Apple out of the slump, his name still wouldn’t register. Not until I watched Pirates of Silicon Valley, where I found out the history of both Microsoft and Apple. Subsequently, I watched Welcome to Macintosh to get to know more about Apple’s computer history.

My iPod Shuffle 3rd Generation

My second device is also an iPod, Shuffle 3rd generation, to replace my worn down 1st generation Shuffle. I just love its simplicity. I even like the remote control and voice over on that thing.

MacBook Pro 13"

Then came my very first Macintosh, the MacBook Pro 13”. Thanks to my huge frustration over Vista, and it runs on Intel processor, I finally made the switch. It’s so easy to use, almost non existence problem, and I can even exchange files with my Windows & Linux friends. According to my seasoned Apple user friend, the current OS is the most stable among all Macintosh OS. Sure this piece of machine is very expensive, but it’s worth every cents.

Magic Mouse

Then I got myself this baby, a Magic Mouse. It’s wireless, no scroll, just one big button, and a touch surface. I don’t really use it much but it came really handy when I have to do repetitive computer work. On every other day I just prefer to use the touch pad. In fact, if I decided to get the iMac, I would still prefer to use the touchpad. I just love the idea of using multiple touch to do your computing work.

White iPhone 3Gs

Then there’s the Smartphone era. It’s those time when I have “should I have it or not” moment. I mean, I have and iPod, the camera wasn’t that great; not that I care to take a lot of photo with it since I have a real full pledge camera, and its touch screen, not good for SMSing when driving; yes I know it’s bad, but I go with it anyway. But once I have it, I can’t get enough of it.

iPod Nano

Ahh, the iPod Nano. The main reason why I bought this when I already have iPod Shuffle is because I lost my iPod Shuffle. I must admit that iPhone battery doesn’t last long so I got this baby instead, purely for songs. Need to conserve every bit of juice on my phone you know. So this is a really good solution for me. And it’s touch screen too.

iPad 2

And finally, the iPad. I saw the potential, I seen what it can do for work. It’s has replace my traditional note taking pad; I bought a stylus for that, reading my ebook, it fit nicely to my gadget empire. It complete everything that I have.

So am I getting the new iPhone 4s? Of course I am. Will be using it together with 3Gs, and my current Nokia C6 will be used as my GPS navigation device when I’m out of town; the only thing that really work for me on Nokia. The rest? Pffthh!!!

For the rest of you non-Apple user, that company made a difference to your world too. They were the first company to use CD-ROM on every computer before the rest follow suit. They were the company that democratise 802.11 on WiFi from Apple’s Airport, Apple made FireWire as a standard and USB, and most notably, the mouse. They don’t invent it, but they re-invent it and made it successful. So in a way, whether you’re and Apple on non-Apple user, we all are very grateful to the innovation this man brings into this world.

Mr. Jobs, I thank you.
