Wrath of Khan

Space, the final frontier. These are the voyages of the starship Enterprise. Its 5-year mission: to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations, to boldly go where no man has gone before.

Space… The final frontier. These are the voyages of the starship Enterprise. It’s continuing mission, to explore strange new worlds. To seek out new life and new civilizations. To boldly go where no one has gone before.

But of course, Captain Jean-Luc Picard was the captain for that particular starship. Think I’m going of course, or am I?

I am, a fan of Sci-fi, especially that involve space. Maybe because of the science that involve, or maybe the possibility of what human race could accomplish in the future. We have Smartphone aren’t we, ideas that was planted in the minds of geeks and nerds who watch Star Trek in their teens. Oh don’t you know? Almost everything on Star Trek Next Generation are touch screen and everyone have tri-corder, that resemble our Smartphones, today.

Boring? Yes, to all you normal people perhaps, but not for me. I just love my sci-fi. To be honest, Star Trek franchise was, to my humble opinion, over saturated after The Next Generation series. There’s a few TV series came after that but not quite as fun as the voyage of the Enterprise. Then came the alternate universe of Star Trek. The one where Jim grew up without a father.

Alternate universe Star Trek crew

As a fan, it’s a must watch for. But to the rest, maybe not. I can tell you that it’s not the same as the previous version, more action, and a few inaccurate science. My pet sister was a bit reluctant when I said I want to watch it, find it very entertaining. That was back in 2009.

This year, there’s Star Trek: Into Darkness. I just love it. Never mind about the science inaccuracy, it still is a good movie to enjoy. Which remind me, the morse code in Tom Cruise’s latest movie was accurate. Now, where were we? Ah yes, Star Trek. The music at the end is the same music that was used for the original series. I just love the tune.

Today I revisit Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan. Nope. Not this Khan.

Alternate universe Khan

But this Khan.

Khan

So I watch it back, and I notice a few resemblance for both movie with few minor changes.

First of all, both Khan and their crew was exile because they were clever and evil, but accidentally found and released. I can’t remember if they were found on board Botany Bay in the latest movie. They should be, just to have continuity from the other universe. Then both of them manage to commandeer Starfleet’s starship and use it to cripple the Enterprise. Spock sat on the Captain’s seat on both movie. Now here come the minor changes.

Both movie shows one crew member went into the warp drive core to repair it and died of radiation poisoning. On Wrath of Khan, it was Spock who died while in Into Darkness, it was Kirk. Oh wait a minute. If you haven’t watch it, sorry for the spoiler. But not to worry, both crew member survived, both out of regeneration means. In Into Darkness, it was Khan’s blood that saved Kirk. But it Wrath of Khan, Spock’s body (or rather coffin) was sent to a newly form planet which undergoing a regeneration from Genesis experiment and was brought back “online” in Star Trek III: The Search for Spock. How? Before Spock died, he “downloaded” himself into Dr. McCoy and was transfer back with the help from Spock’s father, after they found Spock. And I wonder why you lot think it’s boring.

Now I’m guessing, the next movie might have almost the same plot as the old movie. Maybe.

Star Trek Crew - TV Series

Don’t get me started with Battlestar Galactica and Buck Rogers.
